Chamber Recognizes John Gebbie
As First “Member of the Month”
President Chris Vulpis announced the beginning of a new program that
will give special recognition to select members of the Greater New Hyde
Park Chamber of Commerce. A “Membership and Marketing Committee
Member will review the contributions of current active members and award
one member each month,” said President Vulpis. “We want those business people that are working
especially hard to make a difference in the business community to be recognized. I could not think of anyone to recognize that is more deserving than our Chamber Secretary - John Gebbie,” added Vulpis.
A Profile of and Conversation with John Gebbie
John Gebbie Sr. has been a resident of New Hyde Park for 34 years and is a Realtor at ERA Caputo
Realty in New Hyde Park. He entered the Chamber only 3 years ago; introducing the members to his
home based indoor environmental business. John quickly came forward and offered his assistance in
helping the Chamber grow. He was instrumental in the creation of the Chamber’s new “Marketing”
web site at www.nhpchamber.com . He also coined the Chamber’s marketing slogan “Visit Us- Every
Day.” John designed and produced the signs that are affixed to member’s windows and front doors.
John Gebbie has introduced over 40 new business owners to the benefits of Chamber membership
since he became the Chamber’s Secretary just 11 months ago. Currently John sits on our Membership
and Web Site Committees. He is our Marketing Committee Chairman.
“Over the last 4 decades I’ve raised my family, been involved in several community programs, and
done business here in New Hyde Park. We are the gateway community to Nassau County,” John said.
“I take pride in my abilities as a Realtor in helping those that need real estate advice. My wife Carmel (also a Realtor) works with home buyers and sellers, while my concentration is on Commercial Real Estate.” John said.
One of John’s continuing goals is to help all the home owners and businesses in the area learn more about how they can improve their quality of life, by making their family members and employees safer from indoor pollution. “I have a passion for indoor environmental issues,” John added. “There are simple solutions to indoor air pollution that most people are not aware of,” John advised. The EPA has declared indoor air pollution as their #1 Problem. Asthma and Allergies in children is up 57% in the last decade. Autism now effects 1 in every 162 children compared to 1 in 2000 ten years ago. Indoor air pollution is at the core of many of these cases. We have the simple answers.” John added.
