Chamber President Richard DeMartino has announced the selection of Morris Singer as “Member of the Month”, a co-owner of Cartridge World of New Hyde Park with his wife Debra Singer. Morris has been an active member since June 2004, just after meeting Richard DeMartino, then Second Vice President of the Greater NHP Chamber, at a Ronald McDonald House Networking event. Within the first few months Morris became aware of a shortfall the Chamber had in the budget for a bench to be dedicated for 9/11 victims at Clinton Martin Park. He initiated a printer cartridge collection drive and donated the money to the Chamber to cover the shortfall. He ran another collection drive for Earth Day in 2006, the proceeds of which were the first to be deposited in the Chamber’s 501C Fund.
Having spent 20 years commuting to Greenpoint, Brooklyn where he owned a knit goods contracting business, when Debra and Morris opened their Cartridge World store in New Hyde Park, they were eager to be more proactive and involved in the community they served. “We chose
New Hyde Park because of its great mix of businesses and its strong community spirit. The Chamber has been an extremely rewarding and satisfying part of our nearly 5 years in New Hyde Park. The other members we have met, worked with or just shared dinner conversation with have made are membership equally gratifying.”
